Surf's Up for
Florida-Ron Jon Surf Shop partnership
Ron Jon Surf Shop, an iconic surf emporium with locations throughout the United States, wanted to find a way to incorporate their roots in surfing with a community-building concept to further expand their brand.
Julison Communications developed the idea of Ron Jon Surf Shop partnering with Special Olympics Florida to create the first-ever sanctioned surfing program with the organization's athletes.
Special Olympics Florida became the first Special Olympics organization in the world to take on the sport of surfing.
The Ron Jon Surf Shop-Special Olympics Florida surfing program began with a six-week instructional series created by Craig Carroll, head of the Ron Jon Surf School in Cocoa Beach, Fla.
Word spread and the program quickly expanded. Following the wrap-up of the inaugural program and first-ever Special Olympics surfing competition, the program has expanded throughout the state.
The Ron Jon Surf Shop-Special Olympics Florida surfing program received significant coverage in all local markets in which the programs were held. This included front-page feature stories in Florida Today, the Orlando Sentinel, Florida Times-Union, Stuart News and other surfing related publications.
Local TV affiliates prominently featured the story resulting in more than 60 TV stories throughout Orlando, West Palm Beach, Jacksonville and Daytona Beach.
The social media campaign included a three-minute wrap-up video which provided a behind-the-scenes look at the development and execution of the surfing program. Ron Jon Surf Shop and Special Olympics Florida both received overwhelming positive feedback via social media channels regarding the program.
